North Rocks, NSW is located in Greater Western Sydney’s Hills District, 26 km north-west from the Sydney CBD. The majority of North Rocks now falls under the City of Parramatta’s council area, following the 2016 amalgamation of council areas. The Hills Shire includes streets north of the M2 Hills Motorway.

North Rocks is a name that dates back to Parramatta’s inception. The North Rocks were an enormous sandstone outcrop that terminated Hunts Creek’s south side. These rocks were so prominent in the landscape that the area was named after them.

Before North Rocks was rezoned in 1958, the area housed 40 farms. These included piggeries and poultry farms. Lynwood Estate was one of the many new housing developments created when the area was rezoned.

North Rocks Shopping Centre and Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children school can be found on North Rocks Road. There is a Coles Supermarket, Kmart discount departmental store, and more than 70 specialty shops in the shopping centre. On the opposite side of the shopping centre, at the intersection of North Rocks Road & Lawndale Avenue, is a small number of shops.

North Rocks Markets are run by the local Rotary Club every Sunday. A gold coin donation to the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children is all that’s required.

The area around Loyalty Road is considered a light industrial zone. It includes businesses such as Officeworks, Unilever and Rexona, along with many others in different industrial estates.

North Rocks is served by the M2 Hills Motorway. It can be accessed from Barclay Road, North Rocks or Pennant Hills Road in Carlingford. Buses are the main mode of public transport in this area.

The suburb has a variety of public services, including large reserves like Hunts Creek Reserve which boasts Balaka Falls, a picturesque waterfall), as well as sporting facilities, community centres, schools, and active Rotary, Lions, Scout, and Girl Guide clubs.

North Rocks is home to Muirfield Golf Club. This 18-hole, parkland-style course has club facilities and is located on Barclay Road.

North Rocks is home to a variety of parks and reserves. The Bidjigal Reserve includes a towering eucalypt rainforest, weathered and sandstone-cliffs, sparkling streams, and sheltered rainforest valleys. It borders the North and West Periphery of North Rocks. Fauna includes the swamp wallaby and eastern water dragon, as well as koalas, echidnas, sugar gliders, and echidnas. Bidjigal Reserve is home to 127 bird species. You can also access the MurriYanna Track in Bidjigal reserve from Whitbread Place.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, North Rocks has 7,965 inhabitants.
